Today is Tuesday, February 27th, 2007; Karen's Korner #1007

Most of us can repeat the prayer Jesus taught his disciples to pray, the Lord's Prayer. How many times is it found in the Bible? Two times.

Chris Lousias researched what the sentences mean from Warren Wiersbe's:  "Be Compassionate", which I used in its entirety in a recent Sunday School class. I am sharing one paragraph of her research; plus both versions of the prayer from Matthew and Luke. I have highlighted in bold, portions that really said volumes to me, as I read it (if you would like the entire two pages of research, email me and I will forward it to you):

:"Why does our Father in Heaven answer prayer?  Not just to meet the needs of His children, but to meet them in such a way that it brings glory to His name.  'Hallowed be thy name.'  When God’s people pray, God’s reputation is at stake.. The way He takes care of His children is a witness to the world that He can be trusted.  Persistence in prayer is not an attempt to change God’s mind (“Thy will be done”) but to get ourselves to the place where He can trust us with an answer.

Luke 11:2-4 --

2 He said to them, "When you pray, say:
   'Father,
   hallowed be your name,
   your kingdom come

3
Give us each day our daily bread.

4
Forgive us our sins,
for we also forgive everyone who sins against us.
And lead us not into temptation.

 Matthew 6:9-13 --

9 "This, then, is how you should pray:
   'Our Father in heaven,
   hallowed be your name,

10 y
our kingdom come,
   your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.

11
Give us today our daily bread.

12
Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.

13
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one."
