Today is Wednesday, July 4th, 2007; Karen's Korner #1098

Happy 4th of July; Independence Day; so I have selected a couple of Bible verses about 'freedom':

Psalm 119:44-46 (NIV)

44 I will always obey your law,
       for ever and ever.

45 I will walk about in freedom,
for I have sought out your precepts.

46 I will speak of your statutes before kings
and will not be put to shame.

Luke 4:17-19 (NIV)

17 The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him (Jesus).
Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
18 "The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
      because he has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
   to release the oppressed,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.

John 8:32 (LB)

"You shall know the Truth; and the Truth will set you free."

Bible Commentary on this verse:

"Jesus himself is the truth that sets us free. He is the source of truth, the perfect standard of what is right. He frees us from the consequences of sin, from self-deception, and from deception by Satan. He shows us clearly the way to eternal life with God. Thus Jesus does not give us freedom to do what we want, but freedom to follow God. As we seek to live for God, Jesus' perfect truth frees us to be all that God meant us to be."
