Today is Wednesday, October 31st, 2007; Karen's Korner #1178

People don't have to be around churches very long before they are introduced to the 23rd Psalm. Verse number one says, "The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want," in the most familiar translation. Unfortunately for most of us, and in the American culture in particular, we WANT!

I like the Living Bible translation of that same verse, "Because the Lord is my Shepherd, I have everything I need!" I might want a lot of different things, but if I have the Shepherd, I have everything I NEED!

This is a devotional by Shirley Choat from February of this year:

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. Psalm 23:1

The Bible contains more than 1200 chapters, but none is more comforting, inspiring, and encouraging than the 23rd Psalm. It is very warm and personal, and it assures us that we are completely surrounded by God's love. His care can be found beneath us in green pastures, beside us in still waters, with us as our Shepherd, before us on a table, around us as protection from our enemies, behind us as goodness and mercy, and ahead of us in the house of the LORD, where we will dwell forever.

When we are faced with fear and difficulty, think of this psalm and repeat over and over until your heart is comforted. "The LORD is my Shepherd, MY SHEPHERD, I shall not want."

O for a faith that will not shrink,
    Though pressed by every foe,
That will not tremble on the brink
    Of any earthly woe.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - Man knows no want when God is his supply.
