A daily devotional email from Shirley Choat:
"Call to Me and I will answer you,
and will tell you great and hidden things
which you have not known."
~~Jeremiah 33:3
Many people are humbugged into believing too little than are humbugged into believing too much.
This is true of people's attitude toward prayer. Most of us believe and expect too little. Christians in Jerusalem prayed fervently for the deliverance of Peter from prison. Yet when Peter, miraculously liberated, stood in front of the door of the very home in which they were praying, they did not at first believe it.
We pray the LORD'S Prayer with great regularity. How much of it do we really expect to be answered? On Sunday morning, we as a congregation unite in a prayer which embraces many needs. How much of it do we really ask for?
What would happen if every member of our churches prayed that God would give him/her a large measure of the Holy Spirit, and that God would richly bless our pastors, teachers, Sunday schools, mission workers, church and state officers?
God Himself gives the answer. He says, "I will show you great and mighty things which you have not known."
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Prayer is not conquering God's reluctance, but laying hold of His willingness.
