A couple of Bible verses which we looked at in Sunday School on Sunday:

Place Your Life Before God
Romans 12:1 & 2:

1-2 So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

Bible Commentary:  God has good, pleasing, and perfect plans for his children. He wants us to be new people with freshness of thought, alive to glorify him. Since he wants only what is best for us, and since he gave his Son to make our new lives possible, we should joyfully offer ourselves as living sacrifces for him.

Often the behavior and customs of this world are selfish and corrupting. Many Christians wisely decide that much wordly behavior is off-limits for them. Refusal to conform must go even deeper than behavior and customs - it must be firmly founded in our minds. It is possible to avoid most wordly customs and still be proud, selfish, stubborn, and arrogant. Only when our minds are renewed by the new attitude Christ gives us are we truly transformed. If our character becomes more Christ-like, we can be sure our behavior will honor God.
