Today is Monday, November 23rd, 2009; Karen's Korner #1701

I had the opportunity to hop a ride to a portion of the annual National Missionary Conference with our former minister and his wife on Thursday and Friday. It was held in Peoria, Illinois. Our schedules allowed us to stay overnight.

Tim and Katrina Platt had reservations at the Holiday Inn which was within walking distance of the convention center. I was lucky enough to be able to get a room there as well.

After checking in, Tim showed me a pink slip, telling about a continental breakfast in room #801 in the morning.

I hadn't gotten a pink slip, but we chalked it up to an omission on the part of the registration desk.

I got to breakfast before the Platts. In the middle of corn flakes and a banana, I began to feel that I shouldn't be there.

At lunch time, eating with a couple from Indianapolis at our hotel restaurant, I knew I hadn't belonged at breakfast. The twosome showed their 'preferred customer' card to receive at 25% discount on their lunch.

I didn't get the discount and I shouldn't have eaten the breakfast.

I haven't learned how to become a member of their Holiday Day Inn group; haven't filled out the paperwork; or maybe haven't stayed at the Holiday enough times.

Reflecting since this weekend, I was thinking about how many people aren't Christians today. They haven't become part of Jesus' family because they haven't learned what it takes to be part of His 'forever club'; haven't read the fine print on the contract or filled out the paperwork.....

Jesus invites; our job is to accept and become part of the club.

Unfortunately, some like me and my Holiday Inn experience....aren't part of the 'preferred customer' status:  not because I couldn't get into the group.......I just hadn't done what it takes to be able to participate in free breakfasts and discount lunches.

Pretty easy to be counted as one of His:  "Believe (trust) on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved......." (Acts 16:31).
