Today is Tuesday, August 24th, 2010; Karen's Korner #1892

Today is the first day of school for the Clarion-Goldfield & Dows School districts. And it is/was the first day of school in most area schools within the last week or next week.

The Karen's Korner for today was emailed to me one year ago at about this time from Shirley Choat. It talks about teachers and today we think about the 'paid' and 'staff' types, but don't discount yourself from the role of 'teacher' as well. If you teach Sunday School, lead a 4-H or scout troop, are a faithful friend, neighbor, or relative to some 'learning' young person', congratulation you are a 'teacher':

The role of the teacher remains the highest calling of a free people. To the teacher, America entrusts her most precious resource, her children; and ask that they be prepared, in all their glorious diversity, to face the rigors of individual participation in a democratic society.

O Merciful Father, I hurt today for those whose bodies aching with the horrendous pain of drug or any other addiction. I lift them up to You, LORD. Just as You delivered Your people from slavery thousands of years ago, deliver Your children today from the bondage of addictions and drugs. Send teachers to spot the first signs of it in the children and help the parents to deal with it. Draw them into Yourself, LORD, for You have the power to set them free. In Jesus' name. Amen
