Today is Wednesday, November 24th, 2010; Karen's Korner #1953

"O give thanks unto the Lord;
for He is good
and His Lovingkindness continues forever."
Psalm 100:1

Our minister started Sunday's sermon with this question:  "Have you ever told your child, 'Say please and __________!?"

The congregation filled in the blank with 'thank you'.

He went on to say, "Maybe it is time for the adults to be reminded to do the same thing."

His message for Thanksgiving was to be thankful and he/we started the list:

God's love
His shield and protection
God's grace and mercy
Our salvation and redemption
That we are no longer lost
His daily provision
We can communicate with Him

For churches and church families
For our home and family members
For physical healing
For each day
For our food, shelter, clothing
For friends
For His care which allows us survive and thrive each day

~
"...always be thankful,
always be filled with joy,
always keep on praying...
I Thessalonians 5:16 - 18

But what about our list of things we don't care so much about? Loss of a loved one? A broken relationship? Less than the best health? Lack of a job? Not enough material possessions to do what we need for daily living?

Our minister reminded us that our emotions can go everywhere; we can be sad or angry, or.....

But, as Christians, underneath is His unending joy. We can choose to tell God 'thank you' in any situation; knowing that God can either change our situation or change the way we think or feel about our lot in life.

And no matter what is coming our way this Thanksgiving, we know that God is in control. He will take care of us. We know that He has in the past. We have memories.....

And because of that past care, He will be there for us today.

And our future? Taken care of by God!

And for that we can be thankful.

"...give thanks to God...!"
