Today is the 25th anniversary of the celebration of Martin Luther King Jr's birthday.
This writing is taken from "In God We Still Trust", a 365-day devotional, by Dr. Richard G. Lee:
Speak Up!
"Set in order the things that are lacking,
and appoint elders in every city
as I commanded you."
~ Titus 1:5
"As a young pastor, Titus faced the difficult assignment of setting in order the church at Crete. Paul advised him to appoint elders, men of proven spiritual character in their homes and businesses, to do the work of the church. In addition, Paul discussed in his letter to Titus that men and women, young and old, all have vital functions to fulfill in the church if they are to be living examples of the doctrine they profess.
"Consider the wisdom of this statement attributed to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the great civil rights leader of the twentieth century: 'Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.' If King did not say it, he certainly lived it. Likewise, Paul told Titus that he could not be silent about the greatest matter in human history: 'the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men' (2:11). Paul charged Titus to 'speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority.' (2:15)
"Father in heaven, please grant me wisdom and courage to speak about Your great and gracious plan of salvation. Keep from me a spirit of fear or timidity. And, by the power of Your Spirit, go before me to soften hearts and open minds to Your truth.
"'My soul finds rest in God alone' my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress. I will never be shaken' (Psalm 62:1-2)."

Taken from an Iowa agency on volunteerism:
"Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve.... You don't have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love."
—Martin Luther King, Jr.
DON’T FORGET!! Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday has become one of the biggest national days of service by using one simple guiding principle: “Make it a day ON, not a day off!”
