Today is Tuesday, January 18th, 2011; Karen's Korner #1992

Our Sunday School classes have been studying the book of Hebrews for the past fall/winter months. Sunday was the last week, as we looked at the final chapter:  number 13.

Here are a few verses from it:

"Stay away from the love of money;
be satisfied with what you have.
For God has said,
'I will never, never fail you nor forsake you.
That is why we can say without a doubt or fear.
'The Lord is my Helper
and I am not afraid of anything
that mere man can do to me.'
Remember your leaders who have taught you
the Word of God.
Think of all the good that has come from their lives,
and try to trust the Lord as they do."
~ Hebrews 13:5-7 LB

Bible Commentary:  We are contented when we realize God's sufficiency for our needs. Christians today who become materialistic are saying with their lives that God can't take care of them--or at least won't take care of them the way they want. Insecurity can lead to the love of money, whether we are rich or poor. The only antidote is to trust God to met all our needs.

If you are a Christian, you owe much to others who have taught you and modeled for you what you needed to know about the gospel and living the Christian life. Continue following the good examples of those who have invested a part of themselves in you. A part of following their example is to pass on the faith to others--to invest your life through evangelism, service, and Christian education.
