Today is Saturday, June 16th, 2012; Karen's Korner #2340
(On Saturday to make up for the Thursday 'korner' which I missed sending).
Sometimes we make a 'big deal' out of Mother's Day and then zoom right by Father's Day a month or so later.
The more research that is done, the more we know how critical dads are to the family and to their children.
When our daughter Jamie was first out of college, she spent part of a year in California as a 'house mom' for a handful of wayward teens. Some were intelligent; others had less ability. Some came from families of means; others not. And the list went on, but there was only one missing element, a common thread, in each of the girl's lives: no significant dad, male role model in their lives!
So Sunday is Father's Day; as we salute dads/men everywhere for what they is doing to contribute to his/some other family:
What Makes A Dad |

God took the strength of a mountain, The majesty of a tree, The warmth of a summer sun, The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night, The wisdom of the ages, The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring, The faith of a mustard seed, The patience of eternity, The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities, When there was nothing more to add, He knew His masterpiece was complete, And so, He called it ... Dad.
