Today is Monday, December 30th, 2013; Karen's Korner #2726

Yesterday at church worship service, we weren't quite ready to let Christmas season go, as we sang a number of Christmas carols. The one that really hooked my attention was "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing". Did you know (if I did I had forgotten), it is written by Charles Wesley, brother of better-known John Wesley) in 1734; and set to music by Felix Mendelssohn in 1840?

Long time ago. I wonder what we are doing today that will be remembered a couple hundred years later. It might not be something we write or sing, but we can count on the fact that what we do -- good or bad -- impacts people today and for generations to come:

Hark! the Herald Angels Sing

Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King;
peace on earth and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!"
Joyful, all ye nations rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
with the angelic host proclaim:
"Christ is born in Bethlehem!"
Hark! The herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King!"

Christ, by highest heaven adored;
Christ, the everlasting Lord!
late in time behold Him come;
off-spring of a virgin's womb.
Veiled in flesh the God-head see;
hail the incarnate Deity,
pleased with us in flesh to dwell,
Jesus, our Emmanuel
Hark! The herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King!"

Hail the heaven-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings,
Risen with healing in His wings
Mild He lays His glory by,
Born that man no more may die,
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth.
Hark! The herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"
