Maybe it is because I am creeping closer to turning 70, or because I am seeing more and more parents' and friends' health fade, I am becoming more and more aware that our time here on earth is fleeting.

And it is true for everyone, regardless of our ages:

Bible Commentary:  "It is easy to forget how short life really is. Realizing that life is short helps us to use the little time we have more wisely. It help us concentrate on using our lives for eternal good, not just for the pleasure of the moment. Take time to number your days by asking, 'What do I want to see happen in my life before I die? What small step could I take toward that purpose today?'"
