Today is Monday, November 29th, 2004; Karen's Korner #426

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, Tiffany Cramer shared a favorite book with me. It is titled, "Father Timothy A. Kavanagh", written by Jan Karon.

Karon has developed a series of fictional novels centered in the small rural community of Mitford, North Carolina. Father Tim is a prinicipal character in the series. This particular book is written as if the Episcopal priest kept a journal of favorite quotes by "real" philosophers, wise thinkers, and poets.

Four of "Father Tim's" favorite quotes are by Winston Churchill and are included:

*  "If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use the pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time with a tremendous whack.

* Man will occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of the time he will pick himself up and continue on.

* One ought never to turn one's back on a threatened danger and try to run away from it. If you do that, you will double the danger. But if you meet it promptly and without flinching, you will reduce the danger by half. Never run away from anything. Never!!

*  I remember the story of the old man who said on his deathbed that he had had a lot of trouble in his life, most of which had never happened.

I am going to share one more of "Father Tim's" favorites in tomorrow's Karen's Korner.
