Jesus was asked by some religious leaders, what was the most important commandment.
"Jesus replied, 'The one that says, 'Hear , O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only God. and you must love him with all your heart and soul and mind and strength.'
"The second is 'You must love others as much as yourself.' No other commandments are greater than these."

Bible Commentary: "God's laws are not burdensome in number or detail. They can be reduced to two simple rules for life love God, and love others. These commands are from the Old Testament (Leviticus 19:18; Deuteronomy 6:5). When we love God completely and care for others as we care for ourselves, then we have fulfilled the intent of the Ten Commandments and the other Old Testament laws. According to Jesus, these to rules summarize all God's laws. Let them rule our thoughts, decisions, and actions. When we are uncertain about what to do, we are to ask ourselves which course of action best demonstrates love for God and love for others
